SpeechEase provides Speech Pathology services for children up to 18 years of age. We assess speech, language, pragmatic and literacy strengths and difficulties using both formal and informal assessments. We also treat these areas using a range of approaches. We offer both individual and group appointments. The groups are aimed at parent education and prevention of later communication, academic and/or social difficulties.
SpeechEase uses a range of visual aids and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) methods to ensure your child is fully understanding what is expected of them and to model an alternative way of communicating while their speech develops. With your help, SpeechEase will determine which AAC method best suits your child’s needs, source/personalise the device, and assist you to integrate the device into your daily life.
SpeechEase offers ‘More Than Words’ which is a parent education program for parents of children under 5 years of age with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Social Communication Disorders. The program provides parents with the tools, strategies and support they need to help their child reach their full communication potential. The aims of this program are to:
- Improve social communication and back-and-forth interactions
- Improve play skills
- Improve imitation skills
The ‘More Than Words’ program runs for 10 weeks consisting of 7 group information sessions and 3 individual home visits. Numbers are limited per group.
SpeechEase also offers assessment and therapy for fluency (i.e. stuttering) using the Lidcombe Program and voice problems in children. We are trained in the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) Loud approach which is evidence based to help children with Down Syndrome to improve their ability to be heard and understood.
SpeechEase is highly trained in assessing and treating mealtime difficulties and offers the MunchEase Mealtimes Clinic. This service is for babies and children who have trouble chewing and swallowing foods as well as for children who eat a limited range of foods and are described as being extremely picky eaters. We are trained in the SOS Approach To Feeding which is a play based approach to help children learn to accept new foods. Find out more about the MunchEase Mealtimes Clinic here.
SpeechEase can also provide training for daycares, schools and community organisations at your preferred location.
