Emily Moore

As a kid, Emily wanted to be a zoologist – until she realised that some animals were more scary than cute! By Year 12, she knew she wanted a people-focused job in a caring profession so was thinking about nursing. Then she learnt about speech pathology and realised that, as a speechie, she could help the whole family (without working night shifts either!). 

Emily is particularly interested in helping kids with motor speech difficulties. She’s done extra training in Orofacial Myology to help clients coordinate their speech movements by changing their breathing and posture. 

Having grown up in a rural community, Emily loves working with families. It’s so rewarding to see how a child’s improved speech benefits their whole family. Practising therapy techniques at home is so important for a child’s progress so Emily finds creative ways to help time-poor families build speech practice into daily routines. She also works with clients to help them access funding through NDIS, Medicare or other routes. 

When she’s not working, Emily is probably outside, playing with her dog, running or competing at netball. She and her partner are part-way through building their house. Once it’s finished, she hopes to be able to travel again with a trip to Vietnam and the Philippines at the top of her list.
