Christa Wessels

Christa was looking for a career that would enable her to work with children or make a difference in the world. After contemplating law or teaching, Christa’s sister suggested she look at allied health disciplines. That’s when she discovered speech therapy.

It was a perfect fit: a role where Christa could help people find their voice, working in hospitals, schools or private practice. She’s particularly fascinated by early language development, augmented and assisted communication, and paediatric feeding.

Christa is a bubbly person who approaches her work with enthusiasm and delights in putting a smile on someone’s face. She loves those days when someone takes the next step forward. It’s wonderful to see the impact that improved communication has on a relationship or family.

Dealing with speech and language difficulties is not easy for individuals or families. It can be a long journey. Christa tries to be a glimmer of light for people experiencing a dark day, focused on celebrating progress.

When she’s not working, Christa loves spending time with her extended family, including her young nieces and nephews. When borders reopen, she’s keen to travel the coast of her birth country, South Africa. Until then, she’s happy to explore more of Australia.
